Harbhajan Singh Plaha is an Indian Cricketer. He is commonly known as Harbhajan Singh. Also called as “Bhaji” from his teammates or loved ones. Bhaji is an international Indian cricketer who plays all format of cricket. He is a specialist spin bowler and has the second-highest number of Test wickets by an Off-spinner.

Bhaji is born into a Sikh family. He is the only son of Sardar Sardev Singh Plaha. He was a businessman who owned a ball bearing and valve factory. Harbhajan was trained as a batsman by his first coach Charanjit Singh Bhullar. After that converted to spin bowling when his coach died by Davinder Arora.

Arora credits Harbhajan’s success to a work discipline includes the three-hour training session followed by an afternoon session lasting from 3 pm until the sunset. In the early stage, bhaji was thrown out of the National Cricket Academy for Indiscipline and pulled up by the match referee giving a verbal send-off to a still young Ricky Ponting. He and Ponting developed a famous rivalry, with the off-spinner getting the batsman constantly during the early years.

His career was rescued by Saurav Ganguly when he fought for his inclusion in the classic 2001 series against Australia. His performance scalping 32 Australian wickets in the 3 test series as India came back from the dead to win 2-1.

Harbhajan has often been in the news for flare-ups on the field, and none was more prominent than the one in the infamous India-Australia Sydney Test in 2008. Accused of racially abusing Andrew Symonds — with whom Harbhajan had already had several altercations — he was initially banned for 3 Test matches.

However, the ban was revoked after the Indian team threatened to withdraw from the tour since the match referee, Mike Procter, had no recourse to either audio or video evidence against Harbhajan. Later that same year though, Harbhajan was banned from playing the inaug32ural IPL after slapping S Sreesanth after a match between their teams.
