IS Bindra Stadium IPL Records, History, Pitch Report, T20 Records
The IS Bindra Stadium is a cricket stadium. It is also known as Punjab Cricket Association stadium. The ground is located in Mohali near Chandigarh. It is popularly referred as the Mohali Stadium. The stadium is home to Punjab cricket team.
Back in 1992, builders in Mohali transformed what was basically a swampland into one of the finest stadiums in the country which came to be known as Punjab Cricket Association Stadium. The construction of the stadium took around rupees 25 crores and 3 years to complete. The stadium has an official capacity of 26,950 spectators. The stadium is designed by Arun Loomba and Associates, Panchkula and constructed by R.S Construction company.
It is a world-class stadium and known for high-quality practice wickets. The stadium also has the good spectators facilities. Only one problem is there are the floodlights as the Pillars are relatively low in height. The floodlights here are unconventional as compared to another cricket stadium. It has done to avoid the aircraft from the nearby Chandigarh airport colliding with the light pillars.
That’s the main reason for having 16 floodlights in the stadium.
PCA stadium is home to the IPL Franchise team Kings XI Punjab. Kings XI Punjab has an ordinary record in Mohali.
How Does The Pitch Play?
When India took the West Indies in a test match back in 1994 at that time the wicket was lightning fast. The west Indies pacers took advantage of it to thump India by 243 runs. Even when Australia played the Caribbean outfit in the 1996 world cup the wicket offered good carry and bounce for the pacers. But since then it has slowed down a little bit and turned out to be a good wicket for batting. Even scores of 180 have been chased in the IPL.
